Help Make My Film Production Journal Entry - September 12, 2003

Today I made a call to a local arts organization to find out about a program called the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. I had to leave a message but  I'll see what kind of response I get from them. It's a group that provides  free legal advice and assistance to local artists. So I'll wait to see  how that turns out. Hopefully they're as helpful as their name leads me  to believe.

 The assistance I received from the group SCORE was very minimal. I guess  I was hoping for some sort of mentorship but unfortunately that's not what  I got. You have to have specific questions to get answers and the guidance  is minimal. So I'll scratch that group off the list for future calls unless  the questions are very specific. Everything is done over the phone, no  face to face contact which for me is a little difficult. I always feel  more comfortable working face to face with people because I come up with  more questions when I have someone in person. Oh well, maybe it's the project  that makes it a little more difficult for them to work with. None of the  counselors that the group could have assigned has ever had any experience  with what I'm doing. I guess had I been opening another event planning  business it would have been easier for them to get a grip on what I'm doing.  Oh well, it wasn't a waste of time but definitely a little disappointing.

 I can say I am a few days away from completing my rewrite so I'll be venturing into more aggressive fundraising efforts shortly. I'll also be able to  share my vision of the film as well as storyboards soon.

 I'm so excited, one milestone will be reached shortly and in the grand  scheme of things it's a small one. But I'm looking at this as a marathon.  This is the completion of the first mile in a 50 mile marathon. I've set  the deadline for fundraising at July 31, 2004. If I reach my goal before  that, I will start shooting sooner. However, if I haven't reached my goal  for fundraising by that date, I will take what I have and rework the plan  to shoot. I'll have to go with whatever I have or don't have and make compromises  to get this project done.
